Florida's Republican Party is running a new web ad blasting Charlie Crist for the state's economic problems while he was governor and for running away when things got tough.

"Numbers tell the story," the ad begins.

"Florida's unemployment tripled, the second largest jump in America; 800,000 jobs gone. Property values down, bankruptcies up, more foreclosures than any state. The government went deep in debt, with state borrowing at an all-time high."

Story continues below video.

It continues, "Which governor took Florida to the bottom? Charlie Crist. What's worse, he didn't stay to fix the mess. He ran away, tried to go to Washington instead."

Crist was Florida's Republican governor from 2007-2011 but did not seek another term in 2010 so that he could run for the Senate. After losing to Marco Rubio in the GOP primary, Crist left the party and became an independent. He also lost to Rubio in a three-way race in the general election.

In 2012, Crist joined the Democratic Party and endorsed President Barack Obama's re-election bid.

"Charlie Crist. Slick politician, lousy governor," the new GOP ad concludes.
