Cantor Bashes Obama on Israel Policy

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor Wednesday criticized President Barack Obama for insufficient support of Israel.

“They [Israeli officials] don’t need lecturing,” Cantor told the “Fox and Friends” program, Politico reports. “I think what an ally like that needs is American leadership.”

The Obama administration has cast a “cloud” over our relationship with Israel, said Cantor, the only Jewish Republican in Congress. The White House’s lukewarm support for our key ally is “very much in contrast to bipartisan relationship that Capitol Hill holds,” he said.

Cantor also took Obama to task for failing to visit Israel before the journey that Obama has planned after the election, assuming he wins. It’s “about time” for the president to visit Israel, a move that is “three and a half years too late,” Cantor said.

GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney will visit Israel in a few days. “What he’ll see over there, and hear, are governments that are very wary of the direction of American leadership,” Cantor said. “I’ve been there, in the region recently, and I hear from Arab governments as well as Israelis, questioning: ‘Where is America in terms of our leadership?’”
