The unexpected victory of Mark Sanford, R-S.C., in Tuesday’s special election has caused House Republican leaders who spurned the disgraced former governor during his campaign to patch up their frayed relationship with the congressman-to-be,
Politico reports.
On Wednesday, Sanford fielded a call from Speaker of the House John Boehner, R-Ohio.
No details concerning the call were released.
Sanford received a call from National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Greg Walden on Tuesday night.

Walden left Sanford a voicemail message congratulating him on his win, a move that must have been particularly gratifying for Sanford.
In April, Walden’s committee stopped spending money on Sanford after allegations surfaced that he had trespassed at his ex-wife’s house.
The decision left Sanford on his own to fight Democratic groups that combined to spend around $1 million against him.
