Biden Preps in Va. for Ryan Debate

In a speech in Virginia on Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden continued to lay the foundation for his debate with Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan just over two weeks from now in Kentucky.

"Congressman Ryan has given a clear meaning to the vague assertions Gov. Romney has been talking about to this point," Biden said in Chesterfield just outside Richmond, Politico reports.

Biden attacked Romney's lack of policy specifics, his "47 percent" remark from the Florida fundraiser video that circulated last week and the former Massachusetts governor’s wealth. He also criticized the Ryan budget for its proposed cuts in education and Medicare.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we are in this together, we are one nation under God – and if the 47 percent doesn't make it, the country doesn't make it," Biden said, according to Politico.

Biden closed by making a pitch to veterans, a group the Obama campaign has been having difficulty reaching.

Troops injured in battle require the expensive, long-term healthcare that Biden said would not be available under programs the Romney-Ryan ticket is proposing.

They aren't victims, either Biden said.

"America is not a country of people who view themselves as victims," he said.

"When I hear Romney and Ryan and this new Republican party in Congress talking about decline and dependency, I honest to god do not recognize the country they're talking about."

Biden and Ryan will debate at Centre College in Danville, Ky., on Oct. 11.
