Home Depot co-founder Ken Langone says there is nothing wrong with him and fellow Republicans pulling for the re-election of New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Langone, chairman of Republicans for Cuomo, says he is backing the first-term Democrat "because I think he's doing a pretty good job."
Fox News Channel's Neil Cavuto
challenged Langone on his show Monday, noting that the GOP has yet to pick a candidate. That, Cavuto said, might send a message that Langone isn't a "real Republican."
"I'm the same guy. I haven't changed," Langone responded.
Cuomo seems to share his concern about the exodus of wealthy, successful people because of the high tax rates in the state and in New York City, Langone explained.
"A combination of the winter and leadership in the city today, it's going to be awfully easy for a lot of people to rationalize getting out of here," Langone said.
What's more, a Republican simply can't win right now, Langone said. New York City just elected Bill de Blasio as mayor, and many conservatives have blasted his far-left agenda.
Langone also says New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie still has a shot at the presidency despite his current "Bridge-gate" troubles. Langone hosted a Christie talk in his Florida home after the scandal hit, and said he had many potential donors approach him afterward saying they would support him.
