The National Rifle Association on Monday endorsed Rep. Todd Akin in his race to unseat incumbent Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill in Missouri.

The NRA gave Akin an “A” for his voting record in Congress, Talking Points Memo reports. McCaskill received a “D” from the group.

“The choice is clear in this election," Chris Cox, the NRA's chief lobbyist, said in a statement reported by TPM. "Todd Akin will support our Second Amendment freedoms and hunting heritage. Claire McCaskill will not."

The NRA is the latest national group to back Akin. He said the support "shows that my record is in step with most Missourians."
