President Donald Trump's administration is handling the crisis in Venezuela "just right," according to Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla.

"I think the Trump administration is handling it just right," Rubio said Wednesday on Fox News' "America’s Newsroom." "There's no doubt that that dictatorship is personally responsible for the well-being of these two individuals."

The U.S. placed financial sanctions Monday on Maduro after the Sunday election gave his government virtually unlimited powers.

The Venezuelan administration of President Nicolas Maduro has captured two opposition leaders amid unrest in the country, according to NPR.

The unrest has resulted in a number of deaths and is a result of actions taken by President Nicolas Maduro, including canceling elections and choosing his own assembly to rewrite the country's constitution.

Rubio said other countries in the region are supporting the U.S.'s stance on Venezuela, including Chile, Peru, Colombia, Argentina, and Mexico.

"All these western hemisphere countries are united, following the president's lead on Venezuela," the Florida senator added. "I think this is something the president has done very well."

Venezuela is an oil-rich country that could have anti-Americans as leadership within the next two to three years, Rubio said.

Vice President Mike Pence also weighed in Wednesday on the Venezuela situation, saying, "Venezuela deserves democracy."
