Potential presidential candidate Hillary Clinton made a "secret deal" with the wife of disgraced sexting politician Anthony Weiner to keep him under the radar, the New York Post reported.

Citing sources it didn't identify, the newspaper says that Clinton aides arranged with Huma Abedin to have Weiner "stay out of public life for two years [and] avoid causing any further embarrassment" to Clinton while she mulls a White House run in 2016.

Weiner, a former Democratic New York congressman and mayoral candidate, has been noticeably absent at recent public events attended by his wife, a longtime Clinton aide who’s been accompanying the former first lady on a tour to promote her book "Hard Choices."

Earlier this month, Abedin went solo to the Gordon Parks Foundation Awards Dinner in Manhattan. Weiner has also been missing from a handful of New York galas and awards dinners attended by the Clintons, such as the Wildlife Conservation Society Gala this month and the Carnegie Hall Medal of Excellence Gala in April.

A Clinton spokesman said the alleged secret deal was "1,000 percent absurd." But a source told the paper, "He has been put on notice by Clinton aides to keep a low profile and remain out of sight and out of trouble."

Weiner resigned from Congress in 2011 after sexting lewd photos of himself to a woman who was following him on Twitter. In 2013, Weiner joined the race to replace New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, but pulled out after he repeatedly sexted under the alias "Carlos Danger" to a 22-year-old woman.

The Post said that Weiner has been keeping his "social media activity clean" while working as a consultant, appearing on NY1’s "Inside City Hall," and writing for various publications about politics.
