Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine says the congressional victory on healthcare will be good for the country and for Democrats in the November elections.

Rallying the party faithful in Atlanta on Monday, less than 24 hours after the historic vote for near-universal healthcare, the former Virginia governor said that, although 2010 will be difficult for Democrats, he is encouraged that they can be competitive in states from Vermont to Hawaii.

The healthcare bill will be great policy for Democrats all over the nation, he said.

The party can capitalize in the fall by touting President Barack Obama as a successful leader committed to fulfilling his campaign promises, Kaine said.

Kaine left office on Jan. 16 after four years. Virginia governors cannot serve consecutive terms but he could run again.
