Emanuel Gets Ribbing for Interest in Being Mayor

Tuesday, 27 Apr 2010 12:05 PM

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel is taking some good-natured ribbing about wanting to be the mayor of Chicago.

Emanuel is a panelist at the Richard J. Daley Global Cities Forum in Chicago. It's his first time back in the city since he mentioned his interest in the mayor's job during a PBS interview last week.

Moderator and journalist Judy Woodruff told the audience at Tuesday's event that Emanuel wants to be mayor one day after current Mayor Richard M. Daley doesn't want the job anymore.

But Woodruff says the consensus is that Emanuel will need some "real experience" before then.

Emanuel laughed.

The Democrat was a top adviser to former President Bill Clinton, an investment banker and an Illinois congressman before becoming President Barack Obama's chief of staff.
