A new super-PAC and website
are up and running to help tea party favorite Sen. Ted Cruz reach the White House in 2016.
The super-PAC, which can raise unlimited dollars to help finance any possible presidential bid by the Texas Republican, filed organizing paperwork with the Federal Election Commission in January, Time reported Wednesday
Its treasurer, Paul Kilgore, is a former aide to Newt Gingrich who also served as treasurer for a super-
PAC supporting Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s 2012 presidential bid, Time reported.
The new group hasn't yet filed financial disclosures, Time said.
The super-PAC drive was announced on Redstate.com
by Raz Shafer, a regional director for Cruz based in Texas.
"I’ve never spoken to Ted about him running for president and I honestly don’t know if he will do it, but I do know he won’t succeed unless freedom-loving Americans like you and me begin organizing this effort now," Shafer wrote.
"Ted Cruz is the people’s candidate, and we need to be the ones driving the effort to elect him."
Cruz was runner-up to Sen. Rand Paul in the Conservative Political Action Conference's straw poll
