The South Florida Tea Party says it is being roasted in the press for an unpaid $6,000 bill for its April 16 rally in Boca Raton, while the city didn’t charge the leftist group MoveOn.org anything for its own event. In addition, it alleges that MoveOn used barriers the tea party group was charged for, reports DailyCaller.com
The group’s Tax Day Tea Party, which featured Donald Trump as speaker, attracted around 2,000 people. The city levied the bill to pay for barricades and police presence. The April 18 MoveOn rally, at the same place as the tea party event, drew just 40 people, according to The Palm Beach Post.
South Florida Tea Party leader Everett Wilkinson pointed out that the barriers remained in place for the MoveOn rally, meaning that his group, in effect, paid for the liberal group’s use of them.
“SFTP was practicing its right under ‘Freedom of Speech’ and was not legally required to pay anything,” Wilkinson said in a written statement. “However, SFTP has always paid and intends to pay.”
