It was mocked on late-night comedy shows and daytime news shows and became a popular animated gif. On Monday, Vice President Joe Biden revealed whom he was pointing at in this year's State of the Union address.

Biden was the second guest on the first episode of NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers."  Meyers held up a photo of Biden seated behind President Barack Obama, smiling and pointing to someone in the crowd.

"If there were an NRA for finger guns, you'd be the president," Meyers told Biden before asking if there really was someone he was pointing at.

Story continues below video.

Biden said that as president of the Senate, he had walked the entire upper House over to the House chamber where the speech took place. During the walk, a senior senator, whom Biden did not identify, told him: "Look, Joe. I know you and Barack are friends, but don't stand up on every damn thing he says, OK?"

Biden agreed.

Then, as Obama gave his speech, Biden noticed the senator standing and applauding over and over.

"And then I counted. Seventeen times this particular senator stood up in front of the president. So I went like this," he said, imitating the smile and point. "Talk about a suck-up."

Biden was less forthcoming about his future political plans. When Meyers asked him if he plans to run for president in 2016, Biden deferred to Meyers' new gig.

"I planned on making a major announcement tonight," Biden said, "but tonight's your night."
