Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum has moved into third place in
Gallup’s tracking poll of the GOP presidential race.
Santorum, coming off his near-win in the Iowa caucuses, has picked up four points in the last round of polling, to pass Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas.
Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney continues to lead the pack at 27 percent, followed by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 19 percent, Santorum at 15 percent, Paul at 12 percent, and Texas Gov. Rick Perry at 6 percent.
The tracking poll is a five-day average of polls of registered Republicans taken nationally. Santorum’s numbers have been trending up since the Iowa caucuses. In late December he was polling as low as 3 percent in the survey.
