Mitt Romney is the first Republican presidential candidate to begin advertising in Spanish, aiming to reach voters in each of Florida's 10 TV markets, The Miami Herald reports.

With last week's purchase of $850,000 in ads, Romney was the first GOP hopeful to hit Florida's airwaves, and now he's the first to do so in Spanish.

The ads are crucial in Miami-Dade County, where 72 percent of  registered Republicans are Hispanic, the Herald reports. Romney's campaign aired ads last week in all of Florida's markets except Miami-Fort Lauderdale, partly to save money for Spanish-language ads this week.

Florida's primary is Jan. 31; early voting begins 10 days before.

Romney's camp won't say how much it spent or how long the new Spanish-language ad narrated by his son, Craig Romney, will run, the Herald reported.
