Dems Use Misleading Attack Ad Against Fla. Gov. Rick Scott

By Cathy Burke

A Democratic Party attack ad released Tuesday and targeting Florida's incumbent Republican Gov. Rick Scott features a picture of an abandoned factory that's actually in Detroit.

Story continues below video.

Most of the ad, titled "It's Not Working" and first reported by BuzzFeed, highlights text about layoffs in Florida running over the picture of the dilapidated factory.

According to the website Shutterstock, the stock footage is from Detroit – and is even titled "Deserted Factory in Detroit."

Scott and Republican-turned-Democrat challenger Charlie Crist are in a tight race in one of the nation's marquee gubernatorial races, with a Real Clear Politics average showing Crist ahead by just 1.3 percentage points.

The stats-heavy website FiveThirtyEight reports that both candidates are "teetering on becoming the least-liked pair of candidates for any governor's race in the past 10 years."
