Florida Gov. Rick Scott's political committee is launching a television ad on Wednesday criticizing the Republican's Democratic challenger Charlie Crist for failing to release his federal income tax returns, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

"What's he hiding?" says the ad by the group, Let's Get to Work. The group declined to disclose how much it is spending on the ad or where it will appear.

Scott, who files jointly with his wife, Ann, has released his returns for 2010, 2011, and 2012.

Crist has said he plans to release his returns, including years prior to 2010, but the documents are still being organized by his accountant. In past races, he released his returns.

"He's going to out-transparent me?" Crist told the Times.

Crist has said he will not release his wife, Carole's, returns. "She's not running for office," he said.

Crist has been fighting to regain his old post, which he held as a Republican from 2007 to 2011. He made a bid for U.S. Senate in 2010 instead of seeking re-election, but lost in the GOP primary to Sen. Marco Rubio before switching to becoming an independent for the general election, where he lost again.

Shortly after his defeat, Crist joined the Democratic Party and went on to support President Barack Obama's 2012 re-election bid.

The party switches have left Crist vulnerable to attacks from Republicans who say he's motivated solely by political preservation and self-interest, but the June polling figures indicate the race is a toss-up.
