NYC Rep. Rangel Announces He'll Run Again

Wednesday, 21 Mar 2012 10:13 AM

NEW YORK — Congressman Charles Rangel says he'll run for a 22nd term despite his conviction on House ethics charges.

The 81-year-old Democrat made it official in a statement on Tuesday night, putting to rest rumors that he would step aside. He's been a political mainstay in Harlem since 1971.

At the end of 2010, Rangel, a Democrat, was convicted of 11 ethics violations. They include failure to pay some taxes and using congressional resources to raise money for an academic center bearing his name. He was censured by the House last year; that's the most serious congressional penalty short of expulsion.
