Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul blasted the "idiots and trolls" in Washington over the weekend while speaking to Silicon Valley tech leaders, The Hill reports.

During his keynote address at the Lincoln Labs Reboot conference in San Francisco, he said at the gathering that people should not get "depressed with how bad government is."

He continued, "Use your ingenuity, and use your big head to think of solutions the marketplace can figure out, that the idiots and trolls in Washington will never come up with."

The Libertarian senator has been attempting to make inroads with the movers and shakers in the tech world as he lays the groundwork for a possible presidential run as the GOP nominee.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton followed Paul's lead on Monday by taking questions at the headquarters of Twitter and Facebook while promoting her book "Hard Choices."

First she scheduled an appearance at Facebook in Menlo Park, Calif., and then later she was due at Twitter's San Francisco office, an event which will be broadcast live on the former first lady's Twitter page.

Katie Stanton, vice president of Twitter's global media team, said she would be joining Clinton onstage "to hear from her about the challenges she faced and the lessons she learned during her time" as secretary of state.

"We'll explore how those experiences have shaped her views on human rights, domestic policy and other topics," Stanton said.
