Although Barbara Bush has said publicly that her son, Jeb, shouldn't seek the presidency, his father might think differently.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush's brother Neil told CNN that while he's never heard former President George H.W. Bush address the subject, he firmly believes he would encourage Jeb to run.

"If you ask dad the same question, 'Should Jeb run?' He’d say yes," Neil Bush told CNN on Thursday.

Jeb Bush has said he is considering a run for the Republican nomination in 2016. His father served one term from 1989 to 1993 after serving eight years as Ronald Reagan's vice president. Jeb's brother George W. Bush served two terms as president from 2001 to 2009.

Barbara Bush told NBC's "Today" in 2013 America has had "enough Bushes," and someone else should take the office. Jeb Bush laughed that off at the time, and maintains he is considering a run despite any family-name baggage.

Despite the bad feelings many have toward George W. Bush, Neil Bush said that shouldn't negatively affect Jeb.

"So it's not like it's automatically a benefit to have a famous name, but it clearly gets Jeb off the starting blocks much quicker," Neil Bush said.
