This may seem strange given what’s happened over the past few months. But Republican Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski believes the Republican establishment secretly wants her to win re-election, Politico reports.

Murkowski, Republican, MillerThat view comes despite the fact that Republican voters in Alaska chose Joe Miller over Murkowski in the primary — she’s now running as a write-in candidate — and despite the fact that the National Republican Senatorial Committee has expressed staunch support for Miller.

The NRSC has contributed cash and workers to the Miller campaign, and it has begun running independent expenditure ads for him.

Murkowski voiced her views Monday, a day after Miller’s private bodyguards arrested a troublesome reporter following a campaign event.

When the Anchorage Press asked Murkowski whether she thinks Republicans secretly want her to win, “Yes I do, definitely” was the response. “They need my vote,” she said.
