Vice President Mike Pence said Tuesday the White House is serious about a vote on healthcare reform this week, CNN correspondent Rebecca Berg reported.
Pence, joined by White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney, met with the heads of three groups within the Republican Party to talk about healthcare. Pence, according to USA Today, pitched a revised plan that would give states the flexibility to waive certain healthcare requirements.
The GOP healthcare bill failed two weeks ago when it did not get enough support from Republicans, despite a push by President Donald Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis. The Freedom Caucus — a fiscally conservative faction inside the House GOP – was not on board, either, but Pence on Monday tried to make headway by offering a truce to the group.
