ALBANY -- Democrat Steve Levy, a Suffolk County executive, announced Friday that  he’ll switch to the Republican Party and then seek the GOP nomination for governor, according to a report.in the New York Post.

Part of what he said in his official statement follows:

The people of New York are looking for more than a party, they are looking for a plan.

The people of New York are looking for more than sound bites, they are looking for solutions.

The people of New York are tired of for rhetoric, they want results.

The people of New York have seen plenty of partisanship, plenty of gamesmanship and one-upmanship from Albany, the one “ship” they have not seen from Albany is leadership.

I am proud that the people I have spoken with in the last two months -- the leaders who stand with me here today -- have recognized the severity of the crisis we face, and have recognized that my long record of fiscal conservatism represents New York’s best hope.

And that is why I am joining the Republican Party - and together we will bring fiscal restraint to our government in Albany.

I stand here today with a record of controlling taxes, cutting spending while maintaining -- and at times enhancing and improving -- services. It’s out there. It can be done, with that same spirit of New York innovation that has made our state proud for the last 225 years.
