Democratic California Gov. Jerry Brown compared Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney to Thomas Dewey and said the 2012 election boils down to contrasts.
“He [Dewey] symbolizes the wealthy east, and then Truman was fighting more for the common man,” Brown said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
Obama “expresses more of the ordinary American and the struggles that the ordinary American is going through,” and that contrasts with Romney, he said.
The governor, who is facing monumental problems in the Golden State with regard to taxes and deficits, said the United States is on a path to recovery, and the country is “better off” under President Barack Obama.
“What I heard at the Republican Party was mostly bashing the president and talking about how they’re going to lower taxes, which primarily are going to help the very wealthiest,” Brown said. “We’re in a recovery, a slow recovery, and it’ll keep recovering, with any luck, and if the Republicans would get out of the way and let the stimulus and the investment go forward, such as the Democrats have proposed, we’ll be better off.”
