Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma is boycotting Tulsa’s holiday parade because the word “Christmas” has disappeared from the annual event’s name, the National Journal reports.  Inhofe, a Republican and former Tulsa mayor, stopped riding in the pageant last year, after 30 years as a regular, when the Christmas Parade of Lights became the more religiously neutral Holiday Parade of Lights.

inhofe, holiday, parade, skips“I would expect that in other places, but not here in Tulsa,” Inhofe said on Monday morning on Fox News.

The parade’s chairman has defended name change as a reflection of the city's growing diversity, telling the Tulsa World newspaper, "If Sen. Inhofe is saying he won't ride again unless or until we change the name, then he may have ridden in his last parade." This year, Inhofe drove 20 minutes out of Tulsa to attend what he called a "real" celebration of Jesus Christ's birth, the Broken Arrow Christmas Parade.
