NEWPORT, N.H.  — Newt Gingrich says he's "perfectly happy" to make public his contracts with mortgage giant Freddie Mac, but the decision is not his to make.

He said in New Hampshire Friday that the decision must be made instead by lawyers for the Atlanta-based Center for Health Transformation, which he founded. Gingrich's campaign spokesman said he remains a partner in the firm and Gingrich said he doesn't have any control over the whether the contracts are released.

Gingrich's work for Freddie Mac has come under scrutiny because of its role in the housing meltdown. Gingrich has said his company earned $1.6 million over eight years for providing strategic advice to Freddie Mac, but that he only pocketed about $35,000 a year.

There was no immediate comment from the Center for Health Transformation.
