Former Virginia GOP Sen. George Allen, who is running to get his old job back next year, is meeting his lofty financial goals. Allen, who faces tea party leader Jamie Radtke in the primary, raised $1.5 million in the first quarter, Politico reports.

The two Republicans are fighting for the seat made available by the retirement of incumbent Democratic Sen. Jim Webb.

Whoever wins will likely face Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine in the general election. He will obviously have plenty of financial resources of his own, so money is certain to play a major role in the contest.

Allen began his campaign Jan. 24 and has brought in an average of $150,000 a week since then.

He ended the first quarter with about $1.25 million cash on hand, a campaign source told Politico.
