President Barack Obama said he wanted to spend part of his southern California Presidents Day holiday weekend watching an advance screening of the HBO series "Game of Thrones," according to The Washington Times.

During the Feb. 11 state dinner for French President Francois Hollande, Obama asked HBO's chief Richard Plepler "Where is my 'True Detective' and 'Game of Thrones?'"

Plepler reportedly made arrangements to provide the president with advance DVDs of both programs, The New York Times reported.

"True Detective" is in its first season. There have been three seasons of "Game of Thrones." The fourth starts on April 6.

"Game of Thrones," a fantasy drama, depicts a medieval world imagined by George R.R. Martin's Seven Kingdoms novels.

Obama has said he likes viewing the political intrigue of "House of Cards" and "Homeland." He has also recommended "Breaking Bad" which is about a teacher who becomes a drug kingpin, and is especially fond of "The Wire," which Obama considers one of the finest televisions programs ever shown.

The latter series, set in Baltimore, offers a raw study of police, journalists, drug dealers, politicians, longshoreman, and teachers as they struggle with issues of race and the scourge of narcotics. The series dwells on corruption, poverty, inner city decay, and the damage wrought by dysfunctional families.
