House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, who battled cancer last year, has fueled speculation that he won’t run in November because he has not yet filed for re-election.

With only three weeks to go before the filing deadline, the Michigan Republican’s longtime aide Sage Eastman told Politico that Camp will make his decision before the cut-off date.

In an email, Eastman wrote, “The chairman formally makes his election announcement close to the filing deadline. This year is no different, and there is no announcement yet."

Although Camp is chairman of the tax-writing committee, his term limit is expiring, and Wisconsin Republican Rep. Paul Ryan is expected to take over the position.

Camp was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma last summer, but he declared in December that he was cancer free. However, he will continue to have routine screenings over the next few months.

The 12-term congressman is a close ally of House Speaker John Boehner, and they were both elected in 1990. If he quits, Camp would become the latest friend of the Ohio Republican to leave Washington this year.

Reps. Tom Latham of Iowa, Mike Rogers of Michigan, Buck McKeon of California, and Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia have all announced they are not seeking re-election.
