Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has his eyes on Democratic Sen. Mark Warner’s seat. Cuccinelli said he may run for the seat in 2014, Anita Kumar reported in The Washington Post’s Virginia Politics
Cuccinelli is well-known in conservative circles for his lawsuit to stop Obamacare. Much of the speculation about his political future has focused on whether he will seek reelection or run for governor in 2013. However, Cuccinelli said during an interview with the Post that he may run for Senate in 2014.
Cuccinelli contends that former Virginia Gov. Warner’s interest in the Senate has flagged. “I understand from people he and I both talk to that he’s pretty frustrated with it,’’ Cuccinelli told the Post. But “I don’t see him doing anything to change that system. He hasn’t even tried.”
Warner spokesman Kevin Hall said of Cuccinelli’s comment: “Once again, Mr. Cuccinelli is wrong on the facts, but never in doubt,” the Post reported.
