The National Republican Senatorial Committee collected $4.62 million in donations last month, its best month as it heads into the 2014 midterm elections, Politico reported, citing a source it didn't identify.

The NRSC will announce that it now has $10 million total in the bank with no debt, Politico said.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee said that it had $12 million in the bank by the end of 2013, but that it also had $3.75 million in debt. The DSCC has not released its January fundraising numbers yet, but they are due out Thursday.

NRSC outraised the DSCC by a small margin in December, $4.02 million to $4 million, but the Senate Democrats surpassed their Republican counterparts in 2013 by $16 million.

GOP leaders say that they expect fundraising to increase due to growing confidence in their donor base that Republicans can win the six seats needed to regain the majority in the Senate.

Polls released in early February showed Republicans leading Democrats in five of the seven Senate races, with a tie in the sixth race.
