The controversy swirling around the swap of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl for five terrorists could mushroom into a scandal that is bigger than Benghazi, according to Jamie Weinstein, senior editor for The Daily Caller.

He told "The Steve Malzberg Show on Newsmax TV'' that Bergdahl Could Become "Bergdahlzi.''

"This could actually become like a Benghazi-type situation or worse in terms of the problems for the White House,'' Weinstein said.

Story continues below video.

He pointed to reports suggesting that Bergdahl not only deserted his unit, but, according to Fox News' James Rosen, "may have been an active collaborator with the enemy.''

"This could be a disaster that the Obama administration has yet to face,'' Weinstein said.

"Even greater than Benghazi. Even greater than the IRS scandal. They gave up five terrorists to bring back somebody who may have actually been a traitor, as some reports suggest.... We don't know for sure yet.''

Bergdahl was traded for five Taliban military leaders who were being held at Guantanamo Bay. The president did not inform Congress of the move before it happened, in apparent violation of the law.
