Rep. Scott Garrett of New Jersey says he remains frustrated and still has no answers after his Thursday grilling of Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on the IRS targeting of conservative groups.
"He came before us back in the spring and some of those questions were raised about what he knew and what he did back during those times. Remember, he used to be the chief of staff for President Obama back when the president was running for re-election," Republican Garrett told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
Story continues below video.
"After that, it came out, there were reports that the former IRS commissioner had to have been to the White House a number of times …Different numbers as far as that goes. So I sent a letter to the secretary. I said, hey, let me know; did you ever meet with the IRS commissioner? Did you discuss these things? So on and so forth.
"Very basic questions, back on June 7th. I am still, six months later, waiting for an answer and that was the basic question that we were trying to get out of him today with, again, no success."
