Wash. Times' Hurt: Amnesty for Illegals Would Seriously Harm GOP

Wednesday, 05 Feb 2014 07:03 PM

Washington Times columnist Charles Hurt says the Republican Party will be gravely damaged if it backs amnesty in an immigration reform bill.

"[Democrats] believe that if you . . . legalize all of these illegals, they will become Democratic voters, and that's their vision of the future," Hurt told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

"But confounding, for a lot of people, [is] why it is that Republicans would go along with this. Not only is it just insane, but it will actually hurt them politically as well.

"Of course, the reason is because they're representing big businesses that want cheap labor, and everybody has a seat at the table here bargaining over this immigration stuff except for the American people, except for taxpayers, and of course the laborers."

Those workers, Hurt said, have already been "screwed by the unions who got into bed with Democrats long ago, [and] they're getting ready to get screwed again by legalizing, what, 12, perhaps 18, million new illegal workers."
