The website created by the state of Oregon to handle Affordable Care Act enrollment is such a disaster it may be shut down, says John Fund, a national affairs columnist for National Review Online and Newsmax contributor.

"Oregon … is the most liberal state in the country when it comes to healthcare. They've had progressive reforms there for decades and you'd think they'd know what to do with it," Fund told "The Steve Malzberg Show" Tuesday on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

"But in reality, no, they launched this website called Cover Oregon … [which] was supposed to be this state-of-the-art website. They were so proud of it, [and] they didn't have anything to do with the Obama federal website."

But the site has turned out to be a bust, thanks to nonstop technical glitches.

"To this day, which is now three months into this, four months into this, it has signed up 23,000 people in the whole state and we don't even know how many of those have paid their premiums," Fund said.

"So it could be a much lower figure and the background story of this, which is reported in The Oregonian paper … This past weekend is just a horrendous example of, well, one blank-up after another.

"It is so badly designed, so insecure in terms of hacking and other potential problems, they may, on April 1, literally pull the plug and sign up with the federal website, which has its own problems."
