Young people will rebel against the Affordable Care Act, opting to pay a penalty rather than sign up and see their premiums increase, according to Sally Pipes, president of the Pacific Research Institute and Author of "The Cure For Obamacare."

"Young people are going to say, why would I do this?" Pipes told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

"Young people are not going to [sign up], the older and sicker people will, and insurance companies are going to have a hard time making ends meet."

Pipes also fears the Affordable Care Act will harm the medical device and drug industry with new taxes that are being imposed.

"America is the innovator in new medical devices, new pharmaceuticals, biologic, and these taxes are going to kill the goose who laid the golden egg which allows us to live longer and healthier lives," she said.

"But this health insurance tax, the tax on pharmaceuticals, all of these things are increasing the cost of healthcare … Many people are going to be absolutely shocked."

The Pacific Research Institute is a San Francisco-based, non-profit think tank that advocates for personal responsibility and individual liberty in national and state issues.
