Washington Post's Rubin: Singleminded GOP Can Stop Obamacare

It is not too late for Republican lawmakers to stop the Affordable Care Act — but they must be dedicated to it, according to Jennifer Rubin, a conservative columnist for The Washington Post.

"They have to be able to focus almost nonstop on this … and this is why I opposed very much the shutdown," Rubin, who writes the Post's "Right Turn" column, told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"It brought in a whole set of other issues that the public was not sympathetic to and they are already predisposed not to like Obamacare."

Rubin said that perhaps those opposing the Affordable Care Act should stop calling it Obamacare, and label it the "Unaffordable Healthcare Act."

Republicans are going to find "some more sympathetic Democrats at some point and if not, let's make 2014 about this … I don't think it's too late at all," she said.

"This has to be the sole focus right now for Republicans of all stripes because this is a huge, huge problem that is going to resonate with ordinary Americans."
