The Affordable Care Act has proven to be a "fraud" bolstered by "fuzzy math," says John Fund, a national affairs columnist for National Review Online and a Newsmax contributor.

"We used to hear about fuzzy math. The president has gone into flat-out disassociated-from-reality math," Fund told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"He used to talk about . . . the success story for Obamacare would be 7 million people signed up. Well, now that we're somewhere between 1 and 2 million, they've completely abandoned the 7 million number and they're claiming they never even said it."

Story continues below video.

The healthcare law is a "fraud," he said, "because it's charging more money than used to be charged for an inferior product and often giving you the doctors that you don't want and preventing you from seeing the doctors that you do want or used to see."

Fund opposes the extension of unemployment benefits — an issue he says is being used as a political football in Washington.

"Everything is about politics in Washington now because we're only 10 months away from a November midterm election and the Senate is riding on almost every vote that is cast and whether or not it's going to be portrayed as negative or positive in public opinion," Fund said.

"The most important thing we have is human capital, and part of that is making sure that we don't let our skills and our habits go to rust, so, the longer you're unemployed, the more that you're without any kind of a job, the harder it is for you to get any kind of a job in the future.

"So, beyond a certain point, unemployment benefits actually retard the ability of many people to enter back into the workforce."
