President Barack Obama’s praise Tuesday of Iran’s "more moderate course" is not only "absolutely insane," but puts the security of our nation and that of our allies in jeopardy, former CIA agent Clare Lopez told "The Steve Malzberg Show."

Lopez, a senior fellow at the Clarion Project, blasts Obama’s conciliatory message to the United Nations for putting Iran "in some kind of moral equivalence, and there is absolutely zero moral equivalence between the United States of America and the number one state sponsor of terror in the world."

In his UN speech, Obama welcomed the "more moderate course" of the government of Iranian President Hasan Rouhani, and signaled the administration’s willingness to engage Iran’s leaders.

"It's absolutely insane," Lopez said. "Our leadership is not acting in the best interest of the United States national security or that of our closest friends and allies in the region, like Israel."

Rouhani, she insisted, is neither a moderate nor a reformer.

"This is an insider of the Iranian regime who's got as much blood on his hands," she said, adding Israel has every right to worry about the "Islamic jihad threat against the Jewish people" from Iran.

"It comes straight out of the Koran," she said.
