President Barack Obama is clueless about the damage his foreign policy has done to world opinion of the United States, author Michael Rubin says.
"Let me just hope that his destruction of American prestige isn't willful. Let's hope that it's based in naivety," Rubin, who has just written a new book, "Dancing With the Devil: The Perils of Engaging Rogue Regimes."
told "the Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
"Regardless, the end effect is the same. He simply doesn't understand the damage he's doing, the importance of allies, how to deal with the adversaries.
"When it comes to simplistic statements, like it never hurts to talk, he may think of himself as [Ronald] Reagan, who sat down with [Mikhail] Gorbachev to negotiate the end of the Cold War, but he doesn't understand the years of preparation that Reagan had building up forces in order to negotiate from a position of strength."

Rubin, a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute and a Middle East expert, says he was alarmed by Secretary of State John Kerry's comments on Sunday that climate change represents the biggest challenge “of our generation.”
"It's just symptomatic of how much this administration doesn't understand terrorism," Rubin said.
"John Kerry . . . continues to see terrorism as rooted in grievance, with the implication then that if you address the grievance, appease the terrorists, it goes away. He doesn't understand it's about ideology."
