Forgotten in the kidnapping of hundreds of Nigerian schoolgirls is the fact the Islamic extremist group Boko Haram is targeting Christians, says Dr. Andrew Bostom, a professor of medicine at Brown University and expert on military Islam.
"What's being under reported about this particularly horrific kidnapping and enslavement, let's be honest about it, is that 90 percent of those captured were Christians, so once again they really are targeting Christians," Bostom told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
"This goes back to Jihad depredations that literally date from the beginning of the 19th century.... The aim of Boko Haram, who are in the tradition of these Jihadist movements, is very straight forward — to make sure there's the strict application of the Sharia in Nigeria, period. That is their mission."

Boko Haram sparked world outrage with its kidnapping of nearly 300 girls from boarding schools in the past several weeks, along with its threat to sell them as slaves.
Bostom adds that there has been an "ugly phenomenon" occurring in Nigeria, particularly in the north which is Muslim-dominated.
"The so-called moderate Muslims in Nigeria really have a lot of the same aim as their more violent brethren and therefore there's been a passivity in the way they deal with this situation," he said.
