Boko Haram may be terrorists, but don't call them Islamic, insists Dean Obeidallah, a lawyer, comedian and Daily Beast columnist.
Obeidallah told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV that the group — which kidnapped nearly 300 Nigerian schoolgirls in recent weeks — is too erratic to have anything to do with Islam.
"To me, if somebody does something based on the faith and then goes and weaponizes it or makes it military, to me that's a radical Muslim," he said.
"If someone running around as a Muslim, started shooting people going, 'if you don't give charity we're going to kill you,' to me, that's an Islamist terrorist.
"Boko Haram literally, they are making stuff up and going, this is Islamic. No, you just can't make up new things and go, this is based on Islam.''

Boko Haram is more like a political terrorist organization, he says.
"Their goal is power. I believe they sincerely believe they're Muslim, I don't deny that whatsoever. They will do or say anything; they've killed 60 or 70 people in a mosque praying, in two different mosques," he said.
"They don't care, they don't care if you're Muslim, they just want to take over. They want to use kidnapping, murder, anything else.
"In the Koran it says women, people should be educated [and Boko Haram is] saying no education.... Their premise as an organization is faulty.''
