The over 200 girls that were kidnapped by the terrorist group Boko Haram in Nigeria have likely been subject to genital mutilation, says Phyllis Chesler, best-selling author and psychotherapist.
"These girls may indeed have been mutilated genitally because they do that in Nigeria and in Africa, both Christians and Muslims," Chesler told J.D. Hayworth and Francesca Paige on "America's Forum" on Newsmax TV.
Chessler has first hand experience living in the Middle East, which she wrote in her latest book, "An American Bride in Kabul: A Memoir,"
in which she details the time she spent living in Afghanistan in her early 20s with her Muslim husband, whom she later divorced.
"They may have already been raped and forcibly married and shamed and therefore as a psychologist, I could say that they're going to have serious post-traumatic stress symptomatology," she said.

Chessler contends that what has gone on with the kidnapping of these Nigerian teenagers is "nothing new," but that "this is the face of jihad."
"This is historical Islam for 14 centuries. This is the history of Islam in Nigeria and in Africa," the best-selling author said.
"What's new is that now the entire world, because of technology, is all looking at it," she added. "We're not looking at something that's new. It's just that we're being given a global peek at something that is very ancient historically."
Chessler said that while the slave trade was outlawed in the west, "Africans in Nigeria and elsewhere continued enslaving each other and selling other black Africans."
She said that the other important point "to understand about Islam" is that "slavery is religiously sanctioned."
