Newsbusters' Sheppard: Media Want to Crush Hillary's GOP Rivals

Friday, 17 Jan 2014 06:06 PM

The liberal media wants to destroy Republicans interested in running against Hillary Clinton in 2016 — and are starting with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Noel Sheppard, associate editor of the media watchdog Newsbusters, believes.

"They loved Christie […] in 2012 after the Sandy super storm and […] when he won [reelection] because they were able to say this is a 'moderate conservative' or a 'moderate Republican' reaching across party lines and doing what people in Washington should do," Sheppard told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"But, boy, it's been short lived and they've got the knives out now. At the time, they didn't think he was going to be a serious or possible contender against Hillary and they now know that he potentially is so they have to kill him.

"We're in January of 2014. We're almost three years away from Election Day . . . and they're beginning to kill all of Hillary's competitors."

Sheppard said the negative wall-to-wall coverage of Christie's bridge-gate scandal "is just the start.

"Every person who throws his or her name into the ring is going to be treated this way," he said.

Sheppard believes Christie was jolted by the bridge-gate parody performed by his rock hero Bruce Springsteen and comic Jimmy Fallon to the tune of "Born to Run" on NBC's "Late Night."

"The last time [Christie] was on Fallon, which was September of 2012, he talked about how he went to his first Springsteen concert when he was 13 years old and had been to 130 different concerts," Sheppard said.
