Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is a "political hack" who's damaged Capitol Hill and must be ousted, according to Marc Thiessen, the former chief speechwriter for President George W. Bush.

"Harry Reid feels that he can do what he wants. He is truly a political hack … a mean, crotchety old political hack," Thiessen told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"He's probably the worst Senate Majority leader in the history of the institution … a bad actor. If all goes well then he's going to be out of a job, or at least out of the majority leader's job, in a few months' time."

Story continues below video.

Last week, Reid, a Nevada Democrat, called armed supporters of rancher Cliven Bundy "domestic terrorists" — the same tag given Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh.

Bundy, of Bunkerville, Nev., has feuded for two decades with the government, which claims he owes $1.1 million in unpaid trespassing fees, while he says that the land belongs to the state.

Things came to a head last week as Bundy and federal agents engaged in a tense armed standoff. The rancher lost much of support this week after making racist statements.

"You don’t have to be a supporter of Bundy to realize that the Senate Majority leader is out of control," Thiessen said.

"To compare [it] to Timothy McVeigh, the guy who … blew up a federal building, or the Unabomber who sent letter bombs … some of these horrific examples of domestic terrorism — it's just outrageous.

"These people were defending their property against the federal government. Whether they were right or wrong, they were in the defensive mode, not the attack mode and Harry Reid is comparing them to these terrorists."

Thiessen said Reid has a history of making wild and unfounded statements.

"Let's keep in mind this is a guy who called George W. Bush a loser and liar, who called Alan Greenspan a political hack, who said all Obamacare horror stories are lies," he said.
"[In the Bundy case], he's defending the Obama administration."
