Michael Lohan confessed Thursday it was his divorce from Dina Lohan that triggered daughter Lindsay Lohan's spiral into substance abuse.
In an exclusive interview on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV, Lohan, owner of Dream Recovery International, said his actress daughter is now, however, "in a better place than she has been in eight years."
"I am astounded at how well she is doing," he said. "She's unbelievable . . . She's treating herself the right way and getting better, both physically and mentally. She's going to really springboard from here."

Noting Canadian-born singing idol Justin Bieber has been "acting out" with risky behavior, Lohan said he should try to figure out why.
"How did this all start?" Lohan asked. "Was it because maybe his mom and dad aren't together anymore? That's what started Lindsay. It was our divorce. Right after the divorce is when she started to use and she never dealt with that."
But Lohan said his daughter "finally got the right treatment."
"That was the difference for her," he said. "I think that she addressed those issues on why she started using, finally. That's what Justin has to do. He has to find out why he's acting out like this, whether its drugs, alcohol, or any other way."
Lohan said people in the spotlight may be better known for their addictions, but "there are so many people out there that aren't in the public eye that have the same problems they do."
He said at his treatment center, "we really focus not only on addiction but on the core issues and trauma that lead to addiction. Then you can understand why the person is using . . . you have to focus on what the problem is to begin with."
