Talk-show host Rush Limbaugh highlighted a bit of political irony Thursday when he pointed out that it was just last week, during the government shutdown, that Republicans were suggesting the delay of Obamacare's individual mandate.
Now that's what Democrats want.
"Just last week, folks, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, me, anybody, suggesting that the individual mandate be delayed to be fair with the corporate mandate," Limbaugh said on his program.
"What were we called? Terrorists, the equivalent of the KKK, racist, crazy, extremist kooks, mean-spirited hatemongers. Bomb throwers. Hostage takers. Extortionists. Nazis," Limbaugh said.
"Just last week, those of us who reasonably said to the president, who said he's willing to listen to all offers, 'Well, since the employer mandate's been delayed for a year, let's even things out. Let's delay the individual mandate for a year,'" Limbaugh said.
Now, after the problems with the Obamacare rollout are more fully on display, it's Democrats seeking re-election who are asking for a delay of the individual mandate, Limbaugh said.
"One week later, when elected Democrats up for re-election want to do it, now, we're going to do it for the American people," he said.
Limbaugh reminded listeners that President Barack Obama would not negotiate when Republicans offered a delay of the individual mandate, calling them "extortionists."
"'You're extortionists. You're hostage-taking. I'm not going to sit here and negotiate with ransom demands, Obama said,'" Limbaugh remembered.
