John Boehner enraged conservatives this week by mocking their resistance to an immigration deal — but the House Speaker has no intention of stepping down anytime soon, Susan Ferrechio, chief congressional correspondent for the Washington Examiner, says.

"Boehner does want to hang onto his gavel. I don't see him specifically giving up unless he really sees the writing on the wall," Ferrechio told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"And I don't think it's 100 percent that this group that will be angry with him will not re-elect him."

Story continues below video.

Boehner poked fun at fellow GOP congressmen for being afraid of immigration reform as he spoke to the Middletown Rotary Club in Ohio.

"Here's the attitude. 'Ohhhh. Don't make me do this. Ohhhh. This is too hard,'" Boehner brayed to the amused crowd. "We get elected to make choices. We get elected to solve problems, and it's remarkable to me how many of my colleagues just don't want to...."

Ferrechio said Boehner, an Ohio Republican views his job as an overseer of "a big diverse and difficult group."

"It frustrates him that he can't get everyone to come together on things and this immigration issue. He's under a lot of pressure," she said.

"He's getting the chamber of commerce pushing him to do something on immigration, but he's got a significant and vocal pack in his own conference who are not going to sit down and vote for anything like a comprehensive bill. So he's really stuck in a hard place."

Last December, Boehner was criticized by members of his own party after he lashed out at conservatives who helped fuel the government shutdown, saying: "They're using our members, and they're using the American people for their own goals."
