As chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Sen. Dianne Feinstein says she has seen the information on terror threats to upcoming Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, and the danger is real.

"I think people going to the Olympics should be careful. I think they should watch their backs. I think they should stay out of crowds if they can," Feinstein, D-Calif., said Thursday on CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper."

But she added that the Russians are good at intelligence and have put a blanket of security over the area, including the Olympic Village.

Still, she said, she would not attend the Games herself unless she had a child who was a participating athlete.

"I have seen the threat stream, and I know the opposition," she told CNN. "And the opposition is dogged, it is continuing, it is threatening."

Two deadly bombs hit the nearby area of Volgograd in December.

Though the main group threatening to disrupt the event is the Chechen-affiliated Caucasus Emirate, Feinstein said she isn't certain that it has no ties to al-Qaida. And there may be more than one group with Sochi in its crosshairs, she said.

"This is the world we live in now," Feinstein said. "And it's just terrible that it's come to the Olympics."
