Unless the Republican Party wants to hand the presidency to Hillary Clinton, it had better take off the gloves and fight as dirty as Democrats, says talk show host Dennis Miller.

Democrats are using Saul Alinsky tactics, Miller said Wednesday on Fox News Channel's "The O'Reilly Factor." Meanwhile, "Our side's reading the liner notes from Doug Henning's dream journal."

The only time Republicans play rough is when they go after tea party members of their own party, he said.

"We gotta start playing rough like they do."

Miller said those who fear that resorting to dirty tactics will lead to a downward slide for the party that cannot be reversed are wrong.

"This country's going in the crapper," he said. "We better get the conch shell back. This is 'Lord of the Flies' right now. You don't have the conch, you don't get to talk."

This year's midterms are critical, Miller said, "Because we've got a president who is on his fifth time in a row of his most ardent devotees telling you, no, he's not malevolent, he's just hapless. And guess what? He's still kicking our arse all over the lot."
